2009 NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheet
The 2009 NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheet contains valuable state and local emergency numbers, NOAA websites, media outlets, and evacuation information for residents.
NOAA's National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) produces the NOAA Extreme Weather Information Sheet (NEWIS) each year for the Atlantic hurricane season. It provides residents with a “one-stop” ready reference containing important contact phone numbers and Internet websites for emergency information in their states and local areas. NCDDC produces one unique NEWIS product for Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and the United States Virgin Islands. Louisiana is divided into two NEWISs: one for Southwest Louisiana and one for Southeast Louisiana. Florida is divided into eight separate NEWISs: Northwest, North Central Gulf, West Central Gulf, Southwest, Miami-Dade, Broward/Palm Beach, East Central Atlantic, and Northeast.
The laminated and waterproof NEWIS provides an ideal reference in the home, automobile, or boat. Since points of contact for various agencies change from year to year, NCDDC verifies all contacts, phone numbers, and websites listed on each NEWIS on a yearly basis. Also, NCDDC continues to monitor the information throughout the hurricane season and posts any NEWIS changes on the appropriate PDF version, available through the links on the right side of this page.
