The West Coast Observing System (WCOS) project provides access to temperature and currents data collected at four of the five National Marine Sanctuary sites, including Olympic Coast, Gulf of the Farallones, Monterey Bay, and Channel Islands. A semi-automated end-to-end data management system transports and transforms the data from source to archive, making the data accessible for discovery, access and analysis from multiple Internet points of entry.

This map provides a common, geospatially referenced view of coastal and ocean observations in and around the West Coast National Marine Sanctuaries. It generally groups observation data into two categories:

  • near-real time observations
  • long term observations

This map updates near-real time observations hourly and stores them for 48 hours. Long-term observations include imagery products created for a three-month period.
