NOAA Habitat Restoration Monitoring

Point of Contact

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries (NMFS) and NCEI have teamed to develop the NOAA Habitat Restoration Monitoring (NOHARM) website, providing a unique interface into over a decade of habitat restoration data in coastal Louisiana.

The initial focus is on projects funded by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA). These monitoring data support the 24 NOAA Fisheries CWPPRA projects that benefit over 100,000 acres of wetlands in coastal Louisiana. It is one of the first NOAA efforts to integrate a time series of very high resolution satellite imagery into the monitoring effort.

The data presented are part of an experimental approach to monitoring selected NOAA-sponsored restoration projects funded by CWPPRA. Diverse data are found on the website:

  • Overhead imagery
  • Ground truth photographs
  • Metadata
  • Summary reports
  • Briefings
  • Interactive capabilities to select overhead imagery for an animated view of change over time and to relate ground truth to overhead imagery
