The purpose of this interactive, online mapping application is to provide access to data collected during the Deepwater Horizon incident as they become available.

Using the dropdown menu along the left side of the map, you can search for data one of three ways: by collection source, by spatial extent of the cruise, or by type of data collected. Any results will be displayed in the sidebar on the right side of the map, color-coded to match points plotted on the map. Either click on a point on the map or a result in the sidebar to get access to the data.

You must allow JavaScripting in your web browser.
You must disable any pop-up blocking in your web browser.
This application has been tested in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer,
and Mozilla Firefox.

You can search for data based on spatial extent

  • To start the creation of a search box, click the "Draw Box" button.
  • Holding your left mouse button, drag the outline of a box on the map.
  • Release your left mouse button to stop the outline of the box on your map.
  • Your search area box will be drawn on the map in purple and results will be displayed on the map and listed in the right panel.
  • The points plotted on the map represent the center point of a cruise.
  • You might see points plotted outside the box, which means that some portion of the cruise occurred within your defined search box.
  • To remove results from the map, click "Clear Box" button.
